Katherine Heigl’s Sister Meg Has Been a Great Influence in the Firefly Lane Actress’ Life

Katherine Heigl (@katherineheigl) has an older sister, Meg, and she is adopted. She is one of the reasons Katherine always thought about adopting children of her own. The Firefly Lane actress has three children; two adopted daughters, Nancy Leigh Mi-Eun Kelley and Adalaide Marie Hope Kelley, and a biological son, Joshua Bishop Kelley, Jr.

The actress has an adopted older sister, Meg, who has inspired Katherine, and they share a special bond. The actress' older sister Meg was adopted from Korea three years before she was born by her parents. Growing up with an adopted older sister might have been an influence on Katherine, so the actress always had a mindset of adopting a baby of her own, and she has two adopted daughters, Nancy Leigh Mi-Eun Kelley and Adalaide Marie Hope Kelley, and a biological son, Joshua Bishop Kelley, Jr.

The Firefly Lane actress is happily married to Josh Kelly, an actor who has appeared in different movies. Her husband has been supportive of Katherine, and to date, there's no news about them not getting along, so we can only assume they are happy with each other.

Katherine Heigl had come to the realization that the world is cruel, and people judge you based on your appearance. The 44-year-old actress was frustrated and angry and expressed her disappointment in an interview. In the interview, she stated,

I just believed that love is love — it doesn’t matter what we look like, but then when I asked my sister, Meg, if she had been treated one way when she was out in public with our parents and a different way when she was out by herself without them. Oh, yeah, all the time! That made me realize that I had been so naïve.
The actress became angry with how the world works and how judgy the world is based on appearance; however, Katherine felt that she needed to channel that energy to help her adopted daughters and keep them safe at all costs. The couple, Katherine and her husband, Josh, adopted their daughter Nancy Leigh from South Korea in 2009 and Adalaide, who is Black, in 2012, and they have realized that they should be protecting their children.

It wasn't others with whom the actress became angry at first; Katherine felt stupid and mad at herself for her naive thinking, and after the realization, she concluded that she couldn't just change society however she could keep her daughters safe and prepare them for the world as stated in the interview:

But I had to calm down and realize, OK, this isn’t about how it makes me feel; it’s about how I need to protect my daughters and prepare them for the world because I can’t change society in one fell swoop.

Katherine Heigl, who had an adopted elder sister as a child, realized early on that she wanted to build the same multicultural, devoted family she had grown up in, and judging by how content she appears to be with her husband and her kids, it would seem the diva has more than succeeded in realizing her dream.

Heigl has advocated for adoption and talked about her experiences as an adoptive parent. However, the emotional impact of the adoption process on her goes far beyond the birth of her first child to the years she spent growing up with Meg, her adoptive older sister.

Heigl and her musician partner Kelly decided to start a family together back in 2009, and they also looked to Korea, having chosen to adopt their first child from the same country where Meg was born all those years ago. Heigl's close relationship with her adopted older sibling has permeated her family.

In conclusion, the 44-year-old actress has learned how the world works and is now living a happy life with her husband and children with the support of her loving elder sister.
